Since this weekend was a long weekend and I was home alone for part of it I decided to put my time to use and do some freezer meals! I made some before and they were all pretty good. I perused Pinterest until I found an interesting blog with new recipes. I picked out a few that sounded tasty and headed the the grocery store!
I spent a little less than $100 on what I needed to make to make 6 different recipes. I was able to make 2 bags per recipe so that is 12 meals in the freezer!
The first time I made freezer meals the food was good but the process could have been better. This time I did a few things differently. I made sure to label the bags before I put food in them. Seems simple but I didn’t think about that the first time and it was hard to label them once full. I also put each bag in a bowl to make it easier to fill. Big difference!!
I mixed each recipe in an easy to pour cup large enough for everything to fit. After each recipe I rinsed the cup and started the next!
I staged all all the food on the table out of the way of where I was cooking. I don’t have much space in my kitchen so it helped to only have what I needed for each meal on the counter while I put everything together.
One thing I learned that pork butt can actually have the skin still attached and apparently contains bones. Gross! I spent a lot of time getting these cuts of meat ready for the bag. Who knew!
The other thing I spent a lot of time on was getting my computer to cooperate! Talk about frustrating! I wanted to be able to listen to something while I chopped and filled bags. I think I was well into meal #3 until I got it all worked out!
Now my freezer is full of quick easy meals that just need to go into the crock pot before I head off to work! Most of them just need a liquid added and a quick side prepared when it’s time to make them. I would much rather eat this then go out for fast food! Hopefully when these are cooked they taste great and I didn’t spend 2 hours in the kitchen for nothing!
